April Fools 2024 Recap: Get Bricked Up, Smelly Blender Bottle Cologne & DONUTS?
Funny or Just Cringe Cliche Marketing?
Here’s what’s going down:
Welcome back to the Growth Track Newsletter. It’s approximately a 3-minute read.
In today’s newsletter, I am covering April Fools 2024!
April Fools 2024 Recap: Get Bricked Up, Smelly Blender Bottle Cologne & DONUTS?
Every year, brands flex their creative muscle to put funny spins on their products.
Whether it is launching odd flavors, or random rebrands- brands love pranking their followers.
But is it funny or just cliche, cringe marketing?
This year I saw an influx of thought leaders on Twitter and LinkedIn discussing how April Fools efforts are just a waste of time because everyone does it now.
Regardless, I had our team send over their favorite April Fools content and today we are breaking down 3 of our favorites:
1. Gymshark’s Shaker Fermente Cologne Ad
Shopify giant, Gymshark is crushing it lately across the board.
Renewing their authentic roots and re-igniting the brand, it is fantastic to see Gymshark regain popularity.
For April Fools, Gymshark launched a full-blown, raunchy (yet sexy?) cologne ad.
But not for any fragrance-
“Shaker Fermente”
Also known as the nasty smell of unclean Blender Bottles with a film of milk and whey protein residue - yuck!

2. Dunkin’s Re-brand (Again?)
I’m a Boston guy, so I hold my Dunks near and dear to my heart.

But Dunkin’ executed the best, low-budget April Fools stunt:
Rebranding to just DONUTS’
What I like about this one is the simple execution with a basic screenshot from Apple Notes, spelling correction and all.

3. Bucked Up is Getting Bricked Up 🍆
This one is NSFW so take this as my warning.
Everyone knows that Bucked Up has a young, male audience - so they came out strong with an immature product launch.
Still, it's pretty funny that they designed and printed tubs for this April Fool’s joke.
It did the job and won attention, so here we go.
