Everything I Know About Scaling Ads... In One Podcast Episode

Paid ads, creative strategy, lifetime value, and why most businesses are thinking about it all wrong.

Hey there, it’s Patrick from TVG.

I jumped on a great podcast recently and wanted to share it with you.

I sat down with Dr. Justin Brown on the What We Can Get Into Podcast and we went deep on pretty much everything I think about day-to-day running a marketing agency: paid ads, creative strategy, lifetime value, organic content, and where I think the industry is heading.

If you've been following my content for a while, a lot of what we talked about will feel familiar.

But there's something about a long-form conversation that lets you go deeper than a 60-second Instagram clip, and I think this one delivered.

Here's a snapshot of what we covered:

Why organic content is your best ad research tool. If you're spending money on paid ads without a strong organic presence, you're flying blind. Organic is your testing ground, figure out what resonates for free, then put fuel behind what works.

The lifetime value framework I use with every client. Most businesses are too focused on the first sale. I walked through exactly how I help brands work backwards from LTV to figure out how much they can actually afford to spend acquiring a customer and why that number changes everything.

Why broad targeting is almost always better now. Meta's algorithm has gotten so good that over-targeting actually hurts you. The creative does the targeting. I broke down what that means practically and how we're applying it across our clients.

What to do after the sale. This is where most businesses leave money on the table. No follow-up, no touch points, no retention strategy. I shared the email flow framework we use to keep customers coming back and how to do it without being annoying about it.

How I think about the future of UGC and AI in marketing. Everyone has an opinion on this. I shared mine, including why I think AI influencers are going to hit a wall, and why authentic human content is only going to become more valuable.

We also talked about how I got started, how I ended up in Dallas, what I'd do if I were launching an e-commerce brand from scratch tomorrow, and yes my top 3 Dallas restaurants made the cut.

It was a genuinely fun conversation with a guy who's building something real and asking the right questions. Hope you enjoy it.
